004 – Let’s Make Lots of Money

I pitched the idea for this webcomic to my friend. While I wasn’t quite so bold as to say that Art over time = Profits, I may have believed that when I was a younger man.

A much, much younger man. Who didn’t do art then, and opted to get a job. (What I’m doing now is also “arguably” art anyway).

I have a stable career. I have no idea how to ever monetize a thing called webcomics. From what I understand I’d be spending hundreds of dollars to make tens of them, so it’s the same problem as with my poetry, in the end.

That’s okay. Everybody needs a hobby.

(Bonus points if you danced to the Pet Shop Boys while reading today’s comic)

003 – Make War Not Sleep

Shayne Koyczan has a beautiful poem/story called “Turn On the Lights.” I was driving when I first heard it. I was in tears, it was so beautiful. It’s about a boy’s night terrors and his grandfather who barged into the room to beat them up.

I think that poem stayed with me when I wrote “Make War Not Sleep.”

I think the kid in the webcomic needs a name.

002 – Pennies for Poetry

I self-published a print on demand book and made like a hundred bucks. Huzzah. But if you started adding all the submission fees for stuff online and the cost to have someone draw the book, that number starts to go red and negative.

I wish I could have been more of a performer. I do practice reading, but I have shied away from open mics when I know I should probably try them out a little more. Or I should go for writing fellowships and develop my craft more.

But I’m 44. No I’m not the person in the picture. (I based that on a youtube search of a poet reciting in front of a microphone. ) My age is relevant because I think I just needed to start putting work out there, one way or the other.

I did enjoy drawing flies coming out the wallet. That was wild.

That Bird – 001

Ah, I tried to avoid drawing in that third panel by filling with text.

So it begins. A man runs past a bird and decides to create a webcomic. There aren’t too many of those out there, right? Don’t really know what I’m doing. I have a facebook account and this wordpress and a domain.

I’ve done this before with other endeavors. I have poetry out there. I have a hobby blog. Now I have a webcomic inspired by the many odd webcomics over the years.

The plan is to post here on MWF, share on facebook TRS as I figure out the kinks, slowly descend into madness.

I have about 4 months worth of madness planned out.

Thank you for reading!
