029 – Inspired by Grant Snider

Made this comic based on a strip from Grant Snider’s Incidental Comics. His was a haiku. Now famously (or not that famously), I dislike haiku, so whenever I interact with it as a genre I have to do something weird. My comic is nothing like haiku (though I have a friend who will immediately turn it into one, I’m sure), but the three panel structure sure does resonate with it.

Now if only I could draw and pretend these scratches were just intentionally bad.

Ash Ketchum finally did what he said he would do.

It only took him 25 years.

In hindsight, he’s been striving for this my entire career. How does it feel to match, stride for stride, with a wandering hobo pet fight trainer? He gets to retire with a trophy and a menagerie of roided out pocket monsters. I get to continue working until the something figures out I need to be able to move my hands and fingers in order to work and there’s no fingerless gloves or master balls to save me from my fate.

I should watch that cartoon again. It really was a dope way to start my day before commuting to college and, later, to teach.

027 – Is it Art Though?

I wrote a book of poetry in 2022! I wrote a book, hired former student (English class, not art) Eric Wolfgang to draw the cover, and he knocked it out of the park. The cover ended up looking cooler than how the actual poetry read.

I’m pretty sure that cover got me some of my sales.

So here’s my attempt at trying to re-create Eric’s drawings of myself and my book cover.

Also you can buy a copy of my book here.

And you can visit Eric’s squaresite here.

Not sure what I was going for here. Eating deer babies? Eating chocolate?

Both?

Probably both.

Still delicious. Don’t take stuff from my hoodies. It’s probably dangerous.

025 – What I Really Look Like

A student saw me without my mask and asked if that was what I really looked like. I had to use all of my willpower to keep from making a crack about how my good looks would be distracting for the class or something idiotic like that.

So instead I made a comic going in the opposite direction.
